This day I was not in class because I had to go with my mother to the hospital, but I asked for who presented today and my classmates gave the following information:

1. Mauricio Lillo talked about diversity:

First, he asked to write a definition of diversity, and then he did a connection between the different points of view. From those opinions, he established some important aspects to consider in diversity’s definition, such as: age, race, gender and ethnicity. Then, he gave some pieces of advice, for instance: be respectful with other students and respect each other, share opinion and beliefs, tolerate different sexual orientation, be emphatic, etc.

Finally, he shared some information about our culture.

2. Sports in education by Juan Gonzales:

He did something like a debate. He established people against and for. Some of against arguments were: spots is a waste of time, it affects the academic success, football players don’t know how to speak in front of the cameras, among others.

Some of “for” arguments were, it is healthy, do sports prevents illness, etc. The idea of doing a mini debate was good, but it missed the main topic, and the time was out of control because of this Juan could not finish very good the presentation.

Plot: Gallipoli follows two idealistic young friends, Frank (Gibson) and Archy (Mark Lee), who join the Australian army during World War I and fight the doomed Battle of Gallipoli in Turkey. The first half of the film documents the lives of the young men in Australia, detailing their personalities and beliefs. The second half of the movie chronicles the ill-fated and ill-planned battle, where the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps is hopelessly outmatched by the enemy forces. Gallipoli was the recipient of eight prizes at the 1981 Australian Film Institute Awards.

Context: The Gallipoli Campaign took place at Gallopoli peninsula in Turkey from 25 April 1915 to 9 January 1916, during the First Wold War. A joint British Empire and French operation was mounted to capture the Ottoman capital of Istanbul, and secure a sea route to Russia. The attempt failed, with heavy casualties on both sides. In France it is called Les Dardanelles. In Australia, New Zealand and New found land, it is known as the Gallipoli Campaign or simply as Gallipoli. It is also known as the Battle of Gallipoli. The struggle laid the grounds for the Turkish War of Independence and the foundation of the Turkish Republic eight years later under Atatürk, himself a commander at Gallipoli.

In Australia and New Zealand, the campaign was the first major battle undertaken by a joint military formation, the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC), and is often considered to mark the birth of national consciousness in both of these countries. Anzac Day (25 April) remains the most significant commemoration of military casualties and veterans in Australia and New Zealand, surpassing Armistice Day/Remembrance Day.

Powerful ideas and Values:

· Friendship

· Patriotism

· Bravery

· Perseverance

· Loyalty

· Fear

· Effort

Personal opinion:

Love, illusion, war and death

A beautiful story inside a terrible background like was the First World War, where the two main characters who went to the war with happiness and ingenuity realized the cruelty of a word when they took part of it.

Gallipoli, with more than twenty years since its premiere, shows us naivety of the world at the beginning of the 20th century. And within the film, the naivety of a youth educated with principles and values in which the war does not fit.

From this perspective, the movie is perhaps one of the best examples of the anti-war gender.

No less significant are the political points that reveal how Empires use “the cannon fodder”.

The major theme of the film is loss of innocence and the coming of age of the Australian soldiers and of their country.

1. Stress in students by Yhincy Contreras:

This presentation was well-structured, Yhincy let us participate. Her presentation really was a micro-lesson. She had a good management of the topic; she used clear English with an appropriate tone of voice.

She made some grammatical mistakes in some slides, but I'm sure that it was due to lack of checking. Everything was very clear and the ending was concise with a remarkable conclusion.

In simple words. I liked this micro-lesson.

Chilean teachers on strike.

Why are the teachers on the strike?

The main demand that has this strike is the payment of the historical debt that has the State with the teachers.

In 1981 was declared the Decree of the Law No. 3.551 which provided a system of pay for the public sector, establishing in article 40 one 'special allocation' not taxable for the dependent teaching staff of the Ministry of education.

To make real the payment of this benefit was fixed the date that should be between 1981 and 1984. However, most of the teachers did not reach to receive the 100 % of the payment; despite of the military Government set January of 1988 as the last deadline for the payment of this right, it was not pay.

This situation has led to teachers throughout Chile to resort to the Courts of Justice, in order to sue the State one compensatory damage for the non-payment of this salary adjustment.

Is this fair?

Yes, because I think that if it was an agreement made by the Government of that time with teachers, which was not respected and Governments that followed have recognized the problem but haven't had the wish nor the intention of solving the problem, it is necessary so that workers carry out their obligations, to be treated with dignity respecting their rights.

Is this strike ethical?

I think indeed it is ethical, since in our country the only way to be heard is through a strike, unfortunately a strake is not the way to solve problems, it is the dialogue. However, I think that if in a dialogue is not possible a consensus it is necessary a strike to enforce the worker rights, because working with dignity means not being looked down on, punishing workers when he/she does not do well his/her job, but also rewarding when the worker does well it. The minimum is starting by paying which corresponds.

What will happen?

The Government will have to answer for the Decree dictated by previous Governments and also the state will have to recognize it, because it is important that teachers, who are responsible for the education of a country, their labor will be appreciated, when this happens will finish this conflict which has last long time.

Today I could not go to class, because I had a commitment in my teaching practice Center. However, Evelyn told me about what happened in classes, she told me that today there were two presentations, which I will talk about their topics, because I could not see my classmate’s performance.

1. Body language by Yara Faudez:

The body language from my point of view involves the following concepts: personality, positions, gestures, emotional control, expressiveness, tone of voice, body signals and Attitude. The human being not only communicates through the voice, but also th

rough the body. For teachers, this communication tool is essential in education, especially for young learner because they are visual.

I can also mention that the body language helps the understanding, because the body language is a support for what we are expressing through the voice, it can be through mimicry, signals, etc. catching the students’ attention and keep it, in this manner; to have concentrated to our students in our speech.

Finally, I think it is necessary to mention that it is a good tool. Nevertheless, in excess can become a bad entertainment that could harm the teaching process, because if the teacher uses many gestures when he/she speaks, the student’s attention will focus more on gestures instead of what the teacher is explaining.

2. Eduardo Maldonado talked about two projects in order to improve the education in Chile.

a) Innovation: it refers to pedagogical projects for innovation with capacity to design, coordinate, implement, and evaluate educational innovation projects using efficiently the human resources and materials in order to transform and improve the education.

From 2 years ago Chile languages connects Chileans with the rest of the world.
